March 2018 Archives News

March is one of my favorite months, maybe because it’s my birthday month, but more likely because it’s Women’s History Month in the U.S. Since I get to work with historical materials relating to women, I always appreciate an “official” reason to share the rich resources of Theta’s history.

The latest issue of the Theta magazine included an Ask the Archivist article on Thetas who participated in the early years of the Peace Corps. It featured Carolyn Combs Gallaher, Beta Rho/Duke, and her story about her experiences serving in Columbia in the 1960s is inspiring. We included a call-out to Thetas to share information about themselves or other Thetas who served in the Peace Corps. I have been getting lots of emails and encourage you to contact me as well if you were in the Peace Corps or know of a Theta who served.

To commemorate Women’s History Month, you might want to learn more about many of our amazing sisters by visiting the Notable Thetas portion of the Heritage Site. Pick a chapter, a category, or even a decade of initiation, to learn more about some amazing women.

Later this month, we are going to be asking for your help in providing some additional content on our College Chapter pages. I can’t wait to share this new feature to the Heritage site. Keep checking back for further information!

I’m off to find more stories of the remarkable women of Theta.
