Welcome to Our Chapter!

Our gorgeous chapter house at 1020 Gerald Ave

Hello everybody, my name is Kate Lufkin and I am honored to be serving as the president for our Alpha Nu chapters 103rd year. The past year has been one of notable achievements both academically and socially. This year, amidst another strong period of growth. I am proud to announce that at the conclusion of formal recruitment, Kappa Alpha Theta was titled the largest Greek chapter on campus, boasting 29 new members to join the actives, pushing our total number well over 60 members.

Within the past year, the active chapter has also been involved in many community service events. All of the active members made teams to walk all night around the Campus Oval in support of Relay For Life. Additionally, four members helped organize the event and a member of last years senior pledge class was titled with raising the most funds of the whole event, totaling over $1,000. Furthermore, the Thetas helped run the Rattlesnake Elementary School Carnival, which they will be actively organizing and participating in again soon. At the beginning of the year more than a dozen members spent over ten hours helping run the Bitterroot Triathlon, which was also an event one of our members raced in. For the infamous homecoming parade and celebration or chapter reached out and connected with the Missoula Make A Wish Foundation in order to give children an opportunity to ride on a float and participate in the parade. Furthermore, members relished in the giving holiday spirit and came up with over 50 toys to donate to Theta’s national philanthropy and dropped them off at the Missoula CASA offices. Finally to honor Thetas International Day of Service, members made dinner and spent time with some community members and the Missoula Senior Center.

While we spent a great deal of time the last year serving the community, members also served both the chapter as a whole and its individual members a lot. Last spring we all participated in a great day long retreat that was generously hosted by the Advisory Board. Here members worked with a local, yet nationally recognized personality specialist and learned about their individual personality types as well as how to effectively communicate with others and how to put to use the strong parts of our personalities in order to achieve personal, and fraternity goals. Furthermore many new forms of positive programming and great sisterhood activities have been introduced.

To put physical evidence forth as proof of the hard work and diligence our members have put into building this chapter to be the best it can be, Theta was a strong presence at the University Greek Awards Banquet last April. Kappa Alpha Theta received the awards for Most Outstanding New Member Programming, Most Outstanding House Operations and Risk Management as well as Most Outstanding Scholastic and Academic Programming. Even more impressively though, Kappa Alpha Theta was awarded the title of Chapter of the Year, for the third consecutive year.

As I took office this January, so did a group of 15 other outstanding women. Alpha Nu was a pilot chapter for a new officer structure for the past two years, but as the new structure was adopted by all chapters nationally, we had to move from 10 officers to 16 total in order to accomodate our rapidly growing membership!

I have great plans and hopes for this chapter for not only the upcoming year, but for at least the next 103 years that the house at 1020 Gerald Avenue will be associated with the University of Montana.
