Service to the community is an integral part of our chapter's activities. Throughout the year members have opportunities to serve with their sisters, doing things like serving meals at a local soup kitchen and homeless shelter, or preparing a meal for Ronald McDonald House residents. During the spring, each class joins together and chooses a service project to complete. This year, the freshmen baked cookies and made cards for an assisted living community, the sophomore class made tie blankets for a children's hospital and pet shelter, the juniors cleaned up a local park, and the seniors donated gently used items to a shelter. CASA, court appointed special advocates, is a non-profit organization Kappa Alpha Theta supports nationally. CASA works with children in the court system and represents the children and their best interests through legal action. This fall our chapter started a new philanthropy event: Cakes for CASA, a pancake dinner to raise funds and awareness. This gives our chapter a chance to strengthen our sisterhood while giving back to children in our community. Our chapter came together to make this event a success in fall 2010 and we are looking forward to holding Cakes for CASA again this fall.
