Academic Interests

Delta Delta Thetas value the academic opportunities offered by a Whitman education, and our members engage in a wide spectrum of academic pursuits, inclusing studying abroad. A Theta can be found in nearly every major at Whitman!

Adacemic Achievement

Group GPA

One of our chapter's proudest achievements is maintaining one of the consistently highest GPA's on campus. From 2007 to 2010, the Thetas held the highest GPA of all Greek womens' groups. Last semester, our chapter had an average GPA of 3.480.

Recognition and Support

At the annual Scholarship Dessert and Bake-Off we celebrate individual members' academic achievements and honor the professors who inspired us to strive towards our goals. Throughout the year we also host professor lunches, guest lecturers and workshops, group study hours each Sunday in the library, celebrate chapter member achievments with "smarties" awards each week, and more. Our Theta By Major program provides a valuable resource for underclassmen in the process of selecting a major. The program connects first- and second-years with with older Thetas who can answer questions and offer insight on classes, majors, and professors.

 Recent Study Abroad Experiences

Lea G
Studied abroad in Spain
I am studying Spanish and Economics
Favorite part: I looove the fact that I can jet around Europe for quick weekend trips to see famous cities and fellow abroad Whitties.
Coolest thing: Going to Valencia for Las Fallas! Spaniards throw the crazy-big parties and Las Fallas is the biggest one of the year. Each neighborhood creates 15m high "fallas" (kind of like a colorful float) and they burn them all on the last night. It's amazing!

Geni
Program: SIT Ecuador: Culture and Development
Studying: Anthropology, Spanish, and Politics
Favorite Thing about my experience: My favorite part of the experience has been living with homestay families.  I've learned a tremendous amount of Spanish and there is nothing quite like being able to crack a joke in another language and have your family laugh with you.  I have been blessed to have incredibly patient and loving families that adopted me as their own daughter.
Plus going out to clubs with siblings is always a blast.
Coolest Thing I've done:  I went to Los Frailes which was listed in National Geographic as one of the world's 15 most beautiful beaches.

Rachel
Program: London, England
Studying: I'm not really studying anything in particular as a Sociology major, just random classes. Favorite classes include British Youth
Culture, Film Censorship in the UK, and Architecture of London.
Favorite Thing about my experience: Meeting new people, being able to travel so easily within Europe. Making lasting friendships
with Londoners as well as Americans from across the country has been one of the best parts of my abroad experiences. Also living a
couple doors down from Hugh Grant!
Coolest Thing: Its a toss up between cliff jumping of the coast of Wales and being in London for the Royal Wedding! Also randomly
running into Anderson Cooper in Amsterdam.
