What is Grand Convention?
The legislative body of the Fraternity, Grand Convention meets every two years (even-numbered) to address
official Fraternity business. The voting members of the Convention body include a delegate from each college
and alumnae chapter, Grand Council, college district presidents, alumnae district presidents, and the NPC delegate.
Discussing and voting on legislation, receiving reports from officers, and electing Council officers is just an
example of some of the information covered.
In addition to business sessions, Grand Convention includes a variety of traditional events including:
- Fun Night
- Alumnae Awards Recognition Luncheon
- Parade of Flags and College Award Recognition Dinner
- The Final Banquet (including the Final Banquet Procession, a tradition since 1911)
All Kappa Alpha Theta sisters are encouraged to attend Grand Convention and participate in the deliberations and
festivities. Convention attendees make new friends or renew bonds from the past while being entertained in fun cities like
Tucson. Each Convention has its own unique theme and flavor, but every Convention celebrates the very best of Kappa Alpha Theta.
Who should attend Convention?
College Chapter Delegates:
There is ONE college chapter delegate per chapter. Each chapter president must attend as the voting chapter
delegate unless permission is received to send another chapter member in her place. The procedure is:
- Contact your CDP as soon as possible, no later than 30 days before the registration deadline (April 19).
- Provide your CDP with a written description of why you are unable to attend.
- Provide name and executive officer who will attend in your place.
- The CDP will review and forward the request to the Fraternity vice-president college for final approval.
If your college chapter is sending an alternate as the delegate, she must be registered by April 19.
Alumnae Chapter Delegates:
Each alumnae chapter is encouraged to send ONE voting delegate to Grand Convention. All alumnae voting delegates
must be registered as the alumnae delegate by April 19 in order to be seated and have a vote at Convention business
sessions. If an executive officer of an alumnae chapter is to serve as the chapter delegate, no approval process is
necessary. If a non-officer is to serve as the delegate, approval must be granted by the chapter’s alumnae district
president. In all cases, if the chapter president is not to be the delegate, please notify
Chris Finley .
Non-Delegates:
All college chapter or alumnae members are encouraged and welcome to attend Grand Convention.
When do I need to arrive, and when can I leave?

the Fraternity vice-president alumnae. Any and all other college or alumnae non-delegates will be assigned for you by
the events director based on your college chapter and/or office. Non-delegates may designate a roommate preference on
their registration form.
