Alina and I in Porto, Portugal near the Atlantic Ocean.
I studied abroad in France and met another member of Kappa Alpha Theta. I could not wait to tell all the members of Kappa Alpha Theta how cool it is to meet other Thetas and to be a part of such a great international organization.
During the fall 2010 semester, I studied abroad in Angers, France in an intensive-language program for four months. While I was there, I participated in a short night excursion affiliated with the University. I overheard another American student, Alina, talking about recruitment and how much she missed her sorority. I was really excited because I equally shared the emotions. I asked her which sorority she was a member of and she told me Kappa Alpha Theta at Alleghany University in Pennsylvania. I could not believe it! We were shocked that we were across the world, never met each other, and still felt a close bond.
L-R: Myself and Alina at the Arc de Triumph in Paris
We traveled to Paris and Portugal together and always said, “Theta love around the world,” taking pictures and kiting every important monument. We had an incredible semester in France and still remain good friends. We send each other Theta t-shirts from our schools, and still feel a close bond as sisters who met in a random city in the middle of France while studying abroad.
It is a small world, but it is experiences like this that make us even more proud to be members of Kappa Alpha Theta. Merci beacoup!
