  Position Overview:  The Director of Development designs, implements, and manages the development strategy for Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation.

Essential Functions:

Develops strategic vision for Theta Foundation’s fundraising initiatives.

Develops and executes fundraising plan, which includes:

* Developing strategies for identifying, researching, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major donors and prospects,

* Managing a portfolio of high-level donors/prospects,

* Organizing fund development activities,

* Monitoring progress of plan, and

* Managing budget.

Develops and tracks proposals and reports for all Foundation fundraising activities.

Promotes Kappa Alpha Theta and its mission.

Recruits and trains fundraising staff and volunteer leaders.

Stays abreast of fundraising trends and the non-profit community in general.

Works collaboratively and creatively with the marketing/communications team to appropriately position development opportunities.


Superb written, verbal, and interpersonal skills.

Organized and inspiring team leader.
Ability to anticipate, understand, and respond to the needs of donors to meet or exceed their expectations within the organizational parameters.

Ability to maintain positive working relationships with others, both internally and externally, to achieve the goals of the organization.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Daily management of development staff.

Travel:   Some travel, as well as after-hours and weekend work, is required.

Preferred Education and Experience:

A minimum 3 years of development experience required.

Bachelor’s degree required.

Certificate in Fundraising Management or CFRE is preferred.

Additional Eligibility Qualifications:

Kappa Alpha Theta membership preferred.
