The Kappa Alpha Theta Magazine

"... we hope to publish a first-class fraternity magazine. It is well to aim high. We want our kite to fly near the sun."

These words were written in 1885, when Theta's Grand Convention voted to establish a magazine and place its editorship with the Kappa Chapter at Kansas. In the intervening years, Kappa Alpha Theta's magazine has undergone a change of title (from The Journal to The Kappa Alpha Theta Magazine), a change of publication schedule (from monthly to quarterly), and several changes of editors (20 Thetas have served as editor, one of them twice).

Today, The Kappa Alpha Theta Magazine is published in April, June, September, and December of each year. It is intended to update, educate, and entertain readers about the Fraternity and its college and alumnae chapters and to serve as an enduring link between the international Fraternity and its members.

Did you know that the first online version of the Theta magazine was posted in the Spring of 2006?

Since then, all four quarterly issues of our magazine have been available online to all Thetas. Each spring issue is mailed to all Thetas with a valid mailing address in the Fraternity database, and, as shown in the chart below, the summer, autumn, and winter issues are distributed on a limited basis.

Alumnae are encouraged join an alumnae group, pay Fraternity dues, or enroll in Theta Life Loyal  to continue to receive all four printed issues of our magazine.

Assignments are made to alumnae and college chapters each autumn, via The Bulletin, and published the following spring.

Other brief submissions, including news about individual and group accomplishments, achievements, and activities, may be submitted at any time by filling out this form. (Online)  Although space restrictions prohibit a guarantee of publication, The Magazine staff does promise to carefully consider each submission and publish as many as possible in a timely manner.

We regret that we cannot publish notices of marriages and births, nor can we publish photographs of members "kiting," i.e., making kite shapes with hands or arms. Please review the photo guidelines (PDF)  for submitting photos to be considered for The Magazine.
