Virginia "Gini" Wilson Laurie, Advocate for Independent Living
Virginia Wilson Laurie is initiated at Beta Beta/Randolph-Macon Women's College.

"Gini" is considered the grandmother of the independent living movement for those with special needs. She helped establish the Post Polio Health International and the International Ventilator Users Network. Post-Polio Health International's mission is to enhance the lives and independence of polio survivors and home ventilator users through education, advocacy, research and networking.

Mann becomes an author, and her books—The Unofficial Secretary (1912) and Royal Women: Their History and Romance (1913)—are published by A.C. McClurg & Co., Chicago. The Unofficial Secretary is re-issued in 2007.
