Philanthropy

One of Kappa Alpha Theta’s three aims is to exercise the widest influence for good. This means we aspire to cultivate philanthropists who seek to create positive change in their communities.

Theta categorizes philanthropy in three areas: service, focusing on hands-on volunteering for others; fundraising, or collecting monetary or in-kind donations for causes close to our hearts; and advocacy, or championing a cause through public support, education, and awareness.

The philanthropic priorities of Kappa Alpha Theta include our own Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation, whose vision is to give every Theta every opportunity to make a difference in the world, and the National CASA/GAL Association for Children, a network committed to providing a voice to children experiencing abuse and neglect in the foster care system. Through these philanthropic priorities, members of Kappa Alpha Theta show their commitment to lifelong education; leadership; growth; and the support, care, and welfare of children.

Service in Action

Each year, Theta collegians and alumnae spend thousands of hours volunteering for their communities and people in need. Whether through Theta’s annual Day of Service, volunteering with a local CASA/GAL program, or donating time to other local charities and non-profits, Thetas are making an impact in their communities and in the world.

Fundraising in Action

Thetas make an impact with their fundraising dollars. Chapters host fundraisers each year benefiting Theta Foundation and National CASA/GAL, not only collecting monetary donations, but also securing sponsorships for events. Our members also organize events to collect supplies for CASA/GAL children or others in need.

Advocacy in Action

Thetas are change agents for children. Our members can advocate for children experiencing abuse and neglect in many ways, including:

  • Inviting national or local CASA/GAL staff members or volunteers to speak at chapter fundraising events on their work and the impact of donations
  • Hosting awareness events on campus or in the local community to educate on the underlying social issues that impact children experiencing abuse and neglect and National CASA/GAL's work.

National CASA/GAL

The National CASA/GAL Association for Children, together with its state and local member programs, supports and promotes court-appointed volunteer advocacy and the belief that every child should have a qualified and compassionate adult to fight for and protect that child’s right to have a safe home, establish permanence, and be provided opportunities to thrive.
