ELC Program

ELCs 2017-2018
The Kappa Alpha Theta Educational Leadership Consultant (ELC) program was launched in 1959, and quickly became one of the most coveted positions in the Fraternity. ELCs are recent college graduates who serve in a visible role for Theta. Their term generally spans from July to April.
They are role models for Kappa Alpha Theta's college chapter members and alumnae volunteers. As an official representative of the Fraternity, ELCs must have thorough knowledge of Fraternity laws and procedures. They must enthusiastically support Theta's ideals and foster the Fraternity’s goals and objectives. ELCs demonstrate a rich tradition of service to Kappa Alpha Theta.

This program is supported by Kappa Alpha Theta Foundation  .

Do You Have What It Takes to Be an ELC?

If you believe you can contribute to this rich tradition of women who have served as ELCs and meet the following requirements, we encourage you to apply:
  • Are a college graduate by June of the year you are hired
  • Are a Theta in good standing
  • Have effective communication and presentation skills
  • Are able to relate to a variety of age groups
  • Are adaptable
  • Are in good health and able to travel extensively
  • Believe in the Fraternity's ideals and principles

Seeing the "big picture" of Kappa Alpha Theta and serving the Fraternity are benefits of the consultant program, but many times the lifelong friendships that are formed among consultants is the most rewarding outcome of their year on the road.

If you have questions regarding the ELC Program or if you would like to request additional information, please contact the assistant director of chapter services at 800-526-1870.

What Our Former ELCs Say About the Program

"The ELC job gave me unwavering confidence and excellent presentation skills. After two years as an ELC, I walked into every job interview knowing that I was a step ahead of my competition. I not only had the diversity of my ELC experiences, but I also had the ability to clearly and confidently articulate them to senior-level management. Ultimately, participating in the ELC program set me on in an accelerated career path that otherwise would have been very difficult to obtain. " Elizabeth Mundy, Alpha Gamma/Ohio State, ELC 2012-2014

"Serving as an ELC provided me with a variety of skills that have been instrumental in my current career. Because of my experiences working with college students and university officials, not to mention the many skills gained throughout my year as an ELC, I landed my current job." Ashlee Moody, Zeta Eta/Wofford, ELC 2015-2016
