Welcome to Kappa Alpha Theta!
I am Dawn Balke, the current president of the Beta Kappa chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta at Drake University.
The national chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was founded in 1870 and came to the Drake campus in 1921. For over 88 years, Drake Thetas have established themselves as intelligent, confident and inspiring women. We pride ourselves on our academic excellence, philanthropic events, campus involvement and sisterhood activities. With over 100 members in our chapter, we have a diverse group of women that are well-rounded in all aspects of life.
The women of Kappa Alpha Theta live by and incorporate our four pillars—scholarship, sisterhood, social and service—into our everyday lives. For scholarship, we are involved in all different sorts of majors ranging from pharmacy to journalism to business. For sisterhood, we put on many activites that include movie nights, tie-dying shirts, attending an Iowa Cubs game downtown and BBQs. For social, we put down the books for awhile and have a little fun at events like our exchanges, Thiesta or formal. For service, we strongly support our philanthropy, Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), and by helping out the Des Moines community.
Thank you for taking the time to look at our website. You can find lots of information here that show what being a Beta Kappa is really about. Welcome to our website and feel free to look around!
Sincerely,
Dawn Balke
