Chapter History

Beta Kappa Chapter of Kappa Alpha Theta was founded on April 29th, 1921 in Des Moines, Iowa at Drake University. Beta Kappa has the unique experience of being one of four women's fraternities established the same weekend at Drake. The four groups held simultaneous installations, and a combined reception for members, faculty, and townspeople was held to celebrate all four installations.

"I think the greatest accomplishment of Theta at Drake is its longevity. When you think of the thousands of women we're connected to and how the same ideals have been pursued throughout such a changing world, it is quite remarkable. Theta has been at Drake through the Roaring Twenties, survived the Great Depression and World War II. I'm sure it rode a wave of Greek popularity through the 50s and was able to perpetuate itself through the 60s with its unrest. And, the whole time was centered on the ritual we still use and the songs we still sing!"
