Are you ready to take the next step in your Theta journey? Do you want to better understand how nonprofit boards operate and how you can make an impact as a future leader? The 2026 Board Service Prep Program is your opportunity to explore, prepare, and grow!

In today’s ever-changing social climate and shifting higher education landscape, effective board leadership matters more than ever. Theta board members play a vital role in guiding our organization, making decisions that affect members across generations, and shaping our future. Serving on one of Theta’s boards (Grand Council, Theta Foundation’s Board of Trustees, or the Fraternity Housing Corporation (FHC) Board) requires not only passion but also a deep understanding of responsibility, opportunities, and challenges.

This is why Theta created the Board Service Prep Program: a dynamic, virtual learning experience designed to equip potential leaders with both general board service fundamentals (valuable for any nonprofit leadership role!) and Theta-specific insights.

What should I expect?

  • Interactive one-hour virtual sessions beginning in late October 2026
  • Expert facilitators sharing best practices and real-world perspectives
  • Theta-focused content that explains the unique responsibilities of our boards
  • Flexible access: Sessions will be recorded and shared with all registrants

Who should participate?

  • Anyone considering board candidacy in the 2026 elections
  • Members who want to learn more about what Theta’s boards do
  • Anyone who believes board service might be in their future, whether in Theta or another nonprofit

Why participate?

  • Build your knowledge of governance, fiduciary responsibilities, and strategic leadership
  • Gain confidence and clarity about the board service experience
  • Connect with experts and peers who share your interest in nonprofit leadership
  • Take an intentional step toward shaping Theta’s future

Participation is not required for board eligibility, nor does it guarantee election, but it will give you the tools, insights, and confidence to pursue board service when the time is right.

The first session will take place in late October 2026. Dates and times will vary each month based on facilitator availability. Contact Chief Executive Officer Jenni Schmaltz with questions. Complete the registration form to reserve your spot and take the first step toward board leadership!
