September 2016

September is full of new beginnings and adventures, and in the archive, we too have much to look forward to this month.

First, when the family of Phyllis McGovern Soule, Lambda/Vermont, contacted the archive about the possiblity of returning Phyllis' badge to the chapter, the archive worked with fellow staff members to have the badge worn by a leading member of that chapter. What a better to start it off by having one of Theta's new ELC's, Jocelyn Nicotero, a member of Lambda and a nutritional studies major (the same program that Phyllis had taught at Vermont), wear the badge. See the details of this special presentation on the Heritage blog.

Have you seen the archive on Snapchat? Tune in every Thursday to see what interesting items we are sharing from the Theta archive. Username is kappaalphatheta. Let us know what items you would like us to feature!

And finally, for this month, Bettie Locke is part of the Indiana Bicentennial celebration! Bettie was chosen as one of the posthumous torchbearers for Indiana's Bicentennial Torch Relay this fall. She will represent Putnam County as a leading woman and a founder of the first Greek-letter fraternity known among women. On September 22, the torch will pass through DePauw University's campus, carried by Alpha Chapter CEO Kerri Hemmelgarn. Stay tuned for further information regarding Theta's celebration of the Indiana Bicentennial Torch Relay and how you might participate! Our site includes a great overview of Bettie's life.
