Being a military spouse after graduating from college has brought on many changes, such as new places, new routines, and new communities. What I did not expect was one constant in my life: Kappa Alpha Theta.
In each new pocket of life, I find Theta volunteers and sisters who make a place feel like home. Their time and service remind me Theta is bigger than one chapter or one season. Kappa Alpha Theta is truly international in spirit and reach, and wherever you are, there is almost always a Theta nearby who is ready to help, ready to mentor, and ready to serve.
It is easy to think Theta is the sisters you lived life with in college. But our sisterhood is for a lifetime, and it continues on because volunteers keep showing up in meetings, on calls, in inboxes, and when a collegian needs a steady figure in her corner. They show up in big ways and in quiet ways. They are the hands that help keep the kite flying.
As a staff member who supports Theta volunteers, I see what they carry. Many take on multiple roles not because they have extra time, but because they believe in Theta and want our members to thrive. They solve problems, answer questions, and guide chapters with grace and wisdom. Often, they do these things with little recognition.
If you have ever wondered whether your time matters, please know we see you, we value you, and we simply could not do it without you.
During Volunteer Appreciation Week, I hope you feel loved. Collegians, thank your advisor in a way that feels personal and real. Alumnae, thank the volunteers who keep alumnae engagement moving forward. Volunteers, please accept this as a sincere note of gratitude from those of us who witness your impact up close.
Thank you for being a steady constant and a sense of home to those who need it most. Because of your hands and heart, Theta’s kite continues to soar.
