Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Author
Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings, Psi/Wisconsin, dies.

First a journalist and then an author, Rawlings wrote The Yearling, for which she received the Pulitzer Prize in 1939. The story became a hit movie in 1946. Another favorite — the autobiographical Cross Creek(1942) — followed, becoming a modern American classic.

Marian Shockley, Actor
Marian Shockley, Alpha Mu/Missouri, dies.

First recognized in Hollywood in the early 1930s, Shockley debuted on Broadway in 1936. She is best remembered for her roles in radio series, including playing Ellery Queen's secretary Nikki, and in other continuing drama series.
