Hannah Ray, Zeta Sigma/Ohio Northern, was recently selected as a Newman Civic Fellow for her community engagement work on the Ohio Northern University (ONU) campus and beyond.
The Newman Civic Fellowship recognizes and supports community-committed students who are change-makers and public problem-solvers at Campus Compact member institutions. (Campus Compact is a Boston-based nonprofit coalition of college and university presidents, committed to fulfilling the public purposes of higher education.) Fellows are nominated by their college or university’s president or chancellor based on their potential for public leadership. Hannah is one of 250 students nationwide to earn this fellowship.
During Hannah’s first year at Ohio Northern, she began her activism in human rights by founding the ONU chapter of Amnesty International. Since then, she has served as secretary for the ONU Model United Nations team and been inducted into several honor societies. Hannah currently works as a resident assistant on campus and is a teaching assistant in the Department of History, Political Science, and Geography.
Hannah is double-majoring in political science and statistics, with a minor in international studies. After graduating in 2020, she plans to join AmeriCorps for one year and then seek a graduate degree in public administration.
