As another academic year approaches, we’re reminded of the incredible impact our alumnae have on shaping the future of our sisterhood. Your support—through volunteering and submitting potential new member introduction forms—is absolutely vital to the success of recruitment.

We’re thrilled to share that more than 2,500 introduction forms have already been submitted this year—an amazing show of dedication and love for our organization. If you have submitted an introduction, thank you! If you haven’t yet and know of any high school seniors who would make great Thetas, please support our chapters by submitting an introduction form.

Recruitment continues to evolve, and we want to ensure everyone is up to date with our current practices. Whether you’re a seasoned volunteer or new to the process, your involvement helps us connect with outstanding young women.

  • Kappa Alpha Theta has eliminated preferential treatment of potential new members based on legacy status. Of course, legacies are still a celebrated part of Theta. You can read more about this change in our blog on the subject.
  • Chapters usually receive an abundance of information about potential new members when they sign up for recruitment through their institution’s college Panhellenic association. This is why we have eliminated uploads from the introduction forms. The value of the introduction is understanding the potential member’s values and character, not the résumé details!
  • Recruitment is a mutual selection process for both potential members and chapters. This means that, throughout recruitment, both sides submit preferences of who they would like to return to or invite back. Per National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) policies, potential members who are invited to the final round of recruitment (usually known as the preference round) must appear on a chapter’s bid list. This means that receiving an invitation to the preference round is a very meaningful thing and shows that potential member has a high chance of joining. It is not guaranteed, though, as potential members and any other chapter they might visit still submit a final list: That list is then used to match potential members to chapters by an NPC volunteer.

Beyond introductions and understanding our current practices, promoting the sorority experience to young women in your life is one of the best things you can do to ensure the future success of Theta and all sororities. Below are some ways you can do this:

  • Update your LinkedIn profile to include your sorority membership and skills you gained from being an active member.
  • Make a post on social media about your Theta story or your favorite Theta memory.
  • Share the value of sorority membership with young women in your life. No one is too young to learn about the women supporting women!
  • Encourage your friends—any sorority women, not just Thetas—to do the same!
