January is National Mentoring Month, and Kappa Alpha Theta wants to help our members make important connections through mentoring. We want our members to have the capability to share advice on career help, educational opportunities, and more. What better way to do that than through a mentoring relationship! During January, members can join our ThetaConnect QuickStart Mentoring Program to make those important connections.

Traditional mentoring relationships typically last several months, if not longer. The QuickStart Mentoring Program provides a fast-paced curriculum for those who don’t have the time to engage in a long-term program or who need help in the specific areas we will cover.

Each week in January, mentors and mentees will be expected to complete program milestones that include:

  • “Meet and Greet” your assigned mentor/mentee
  • Résumé Review
  • Interview Prep
  • Professional Tips

Instructions and conversation prompts will be provided each week to facilitate discussions between mentors and mentees. Plan for a minimum of 30 minutes per week to complete that week’s program milestone. Following the program, mentors and mentees can continue the relationship, if both parties so choose.

All members – both collegian and alumnae – are encouraged to sign up! Here’s how:

  1. Register for ThetaConnect, if you haven’t already.
  2. Join the group you are interested in – QuickStart Mentoring Program – Mentors (for alumnae) or QuickStart Mentoring Program – Mentees (for both collegians and alumnae).

The deadline to register is Sunday, Jan. 2, 2022; mentor pairings will take place immediately following and will be announced the first week of January. All participants are expected to communicate with their paired mentor/mentee throughout the program and make the time to complete the milestones, along with completing a program survey in early February. Those who complete the milestones will receive an online certificate of completion to print or share on social media.

Please be aware that there’s no guarantee a pairing will take place and is dependent on the number of potential mentees and mentors who register. If you are not paired, you will also be notified the first week of January.
