"Noting" Our Appreciation for 75-Year Thetas

Our 75-year Thetas are truly a gem in our crown of sisterhood. In fact, they are diamonds! For the past several years in the fall, we have gathered our former Grand Council members and former Theta Foundation Trustees to celebrate our Diamond Thetas with handwritten notes.

In 2023, a record 41 note writers put pen to paper wishing 379 Theta sisters a happy 75th anniversary on their initiation into Kappa Alpha Theta. Their lovely 75-year pansy pin, in commemoration of this day, was sent to them by headquarters staff.

This annual letter writing has become a beloved passion project for our former leaders. It has reengaged many members who have been mentors and fellow board members. We forged a bond at the board table and this project has brought us back together in such a sentimental way. The ties that bind us have remained strong. We feel a renewed sense of purpose within Kappa Alpha Theta. I reflect on our ritual…that giving to our sisters also includes receiving. The Diamond Theta project has done just that for so many of our Theta sisters who are both giving and receiving these lovely and touching notes.

I have received many heartfelt messages from participants in response to their participation in this project. I think this one says it best:

“I feel like I have a purpose again after all the years I gave to Theta… [T]his project makes me so happy! I hope to be a recipient of such a dear letter when I reach my 75th anniversary. Thank you for keeping us all in touch. Everything you do sparkles…like a diamond!” - Sentiments from former Fraternity President Carryl Krohne, Nu/Hanover, and former Theta Foundation Trustee Jill Pedicord-Peterson, Beta Gamma/Colorado State

It has been a pleasure to coordinate this special project for our Diamond Thetas!
