UGA Thetas Save Victims from a Sinking Vehicle

Category: Fraternity

Eleanor Cart, Kaitlyn Iannace, Clarke Jones, Jane McArdle, and Molly McCollum, all Gamma Delta/Georgia, are heroes.

While on their way to Savannah, GA, on Friday, March 15, they witnessed another vehicle veer off the road into a body of water. They stopped, helped the woman and two children get out of the sinking vehicle, and communicated with emergency responders. Clarke, a trained lifeguard, performed CPR on one of the children who was unresponsive after being pulled from the vehicle.

In the story posted on the University of Georgia’s UGA Today, UGA President Jere W. Morehead said, “I am so proud of these heroic students and their exemplary act of courage and teamwork.” President Morehead presented the five students with an official proclamation emphasizing the university’s gratitude for their teamwork and bravery.

Fraternity President Erica Ochs, Eta Nu/Lake Forest, said this about these extraordinary members: “These five young women didn’t hesitate to come to the aid of these passengers when they understood the trouble they were in. I and the entirety of Kappa Alpha Theta are so proud of the bravery these members displayed.”

Molly shared, “The spirit of courage and dependability within this sisterhood has only become more apparent throughout this process. I have been reminded of the reasons I chose Theta and continue to be uplifted by my sisters who push me to do hard things again and again.”

All five Thetas will be honored at this year’s Grand Convention in National Harbor, MD, in July.

Eleanor, Kaitlyn, Clarke, Jane, and Molly are true testaments to fearlessness, bravery, and heart, and Kappa Alpha Theta is lucky to call them part of this sisterhood. Their immediate action in another’s time of need is exactly the kind of real, positive difference that Theta stands for.
