Kendal is one of 300 students nominated for the Barry Goldwater Scholarship and Excellence in Education Program. The scholarship recognizes sophomores and juniors who are planning careers in STEM research. Candidates must demonstrate strong research experience, clear vision for a research career, and academic excellence in STEM coursework.

Kendal’s work has focused on cold plasma surface modifications of shape memory polymer devices and materials characterization. She is a sophomore biomedical engineering major and neuroscience minor. Currently studying abroad, she is working with biotechnology companies in Germany. Her future plans include pursing an MD/PhD so she can perform clinical research on neurotissue degradation and medical device design.
