Showing Appreciation for Our Theta Sisterhood

“Touch someone who inspires you. Touch someone who makes you feel like you belong. Touch someone who brightens your day every time you see them. Touch someone who makes Theta proud.”

Touch-paint sisterhood event

These words had so much impact on the sisters of Zeta Nu when I hosted a touch-paint sisterhood event in the fall of my sophomore year. Being the human resources director for Zeta Nu Chapter was one of the most rewarding experiences I could have ever asked for. At a time when I felt the love of my sisters, I wanted to host an event that made everyone feel the same way I did. I asked everyone to wear white shirts that they did not mind getting dirty and split the sisters into two groups. After a fireside, I asked the first group turn around so that the second group could see their backs. Then I asked the second group to put some paint on their hands and put their hands on the backs of the sisters who inspired them and made them feel worthy and proud.

Watching my sisters show appreciation for one another still overwhelms me with gratitude to Theta for putting these women in my life. I had no idea that hosting this one event would inspire so much of my Theta journey, but the love I felt that day drove me to get more involved, to become an educational leadership consultant for the Fraternity, and to dedicate myself to this lifelong sisterhood. Today, and every day, I am thankful for everything that is Kappa Alpha Theta and of a sisterhood that makes me so proud.
