How long have you been a member of Kappa Alpha Theta? For some of us, it may be just a few weeks. For others, it might be more than 75 years!
Each year Theta recognizes members who have reached significant milestones on their membership journey. Those reaching their 25th anniversary receive a letter. Those reaching their 50th anniversary have an option to receive a pansy pin, and those who reach their 75th anniversary receive a pansy pin with Theta’s coat of arms.
Theta first began recognizing 50-year members in 1954, sending out a “Golden Link” certificate, printed on gold foil. Recognized at both Grand Convention and among local alumnae groups, it became an opportunity to highlight the special connection among our Theta members. In 1963, the Alumnae Committee expanded the recognition to those who marked 75 years of membership.
For 2022, we will recognize 2,616 25-year members (initiated in 1997), 1,626 50-year members (initiated in 1972), and 313 75-year members (initiated in 1947). During many Founders Day celebrations, alumnae groups will recognize their local 25-, 50- and 75-year members. The best part about these celebrations are the stories shared about their membership experience. Laughter, tears of joy and remembrance, and shared experiences will be part of those stories. If you can, say congratulations and listen to their stories. We celebrate these members, thanking them for joining Kappa Alpha Theta.
You can read membership stories on the Share Your Theta Story web page. We encourage all members to contribute on our Contact form! For stories shared by our Diamond Thetas, our 75-year members, visit the Diamond Thetas web page.
